Bel Canto - Ann Patchett

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

Ann Patchett has written a few articles in the NYT Magazine about opera (for those of you who don't know, I am the press person for the Boston Lyric Opera -- that's why I am interested in these types of books) so I was familiar with her name and writing -- this came recommended by a few people in my office. This is a story about a party that is overtaken by terrorists. Where is the opera you ask? The main event at the party is the performance of a famous opera singer -- there are several dignataries and political figures in attendance. Basically, it's a hostage situation where all sorts of unlikely alliances form. It was very well written and I liked it, but it took me a long time to get through it. Maybe it was a little bit boring ...
